MoneyPerception Model Portfolio started on November 25, 2012. The goal is to find investments which will outperform the market in the long run. The account was assumed to start with $100,000 cash. After certain period, the portfolio’s performance will be compared with general investment market. S&P 500 index is used to represent the overall performance of the investment market.

All transactions related to the account are listed here with the newsest event first.

Transactions

On July 5, 2013, all holdings of Angie’s List, Inc. (NASDAQ: ANGI) were sold. At the same day, investments of Nokia Corporation (NYSE: NOK) were bought. The closing prices of the investments at the last trading day were used as the transaction prices.

Transaction 1: The portfolio sold 2390 shares of Angie’s List, Inc. (NASDAQ: ANGI) at the price of $26.94. With a transaction fee of $7, the net value of the transaction was $22.07*2770-$7= $64379.6.

Transaction 2: The portfolio bought 16420 shares of Nokia Corporation (NYSE: NOK) at the price of $3.93. With a transaction fee of $7, the total cost of the transaction was $25.85*2390+$7= $64537.6.

After the two transactions, the portfolio had the cash of $181.7+$64379.6 – $64537.6= $23.7.

Now Nokia Corporation (NYSE: NOK) is the only holding of the portfolio. Totally the portfolio holds 17300+16420 = 33720 shares of the investment, with the cost of $64537.6 + $60038 = $124575.6.

Transactions

On June 17, 2013, all holdings of New Oriental Education & Technology Group (NYSE: EDU) were sold. At the same day, investments of Angie’s List, Inc.  (NASDAQ: ANGI) were bought. The closing prices of the investments at the last trading day were used as the transaction prices.

Transaction 1: The portfolio sold 2770 shares of New Oriental Education & Technology Group (NYSE: EDU) at the price of $22.07. With a transaction fee of $7, the net value of the transaction was $22.07*2770-$7= $61126.9.

Transaction 2: The portfolio bought 2390 shares of Angie’s List, Inc. (NASDAQ: ANGI) at the price of $25.85. With a transaction fee of $7, the total cost of the transaction was $25.85*2390+$7= $61788.5.

After the four transactions, the portfolio had the cash of $843.3+$61126.9-$61788.5= $181.7.

Transactions

On June 12, 2013, all holdings of FactSet Research Systems Inc. (NYSE: FDS) and United Internet AG (ETR:UTDI) were sold. At the same day, investments of Nokia Corporation (NYSE: NOK) and New Oriental Education & Technology Group (NYSE: EDU) were bought. The closing prices of the investments at the last trading day were used as the transaction prices.

Transaction 1: The portfolio sold 547 shares of FactSet Research Systems Inc. (NYSE: FDS) at the price of $100.99. With a transaction fee of $7, the net value of the transaction was $100.99*547-$7= $55234.53.

Transaction 2: The portfolio sold 2100 shares of United Internet AG (ETR:UTDI) at the price of 22.33 EUR. With a transaction fee of 7 EUR, the net value of the transaction was 22.33 EUR*2100-$7= 46886 EUR. It should be equal to $62273.98, based on the exchange rate of 1 EUR equals to US$1.3282.

Transaction 3: The portfolio bought 17300 shares of Nokia Corporation (NYSE: NOK) at the price of $3.47. With a transaction fee of $7, the total cost of the transaction was $3.47*17300+$7= $60038.

Transaction 4: The portfolio bought 2770 shares of New Oriental Education & Technology Group (NYSE: EDU) at the price of $21.67. With a transaction fee of $7, the total cost of the transaction was $21.67*2770+$7= $60032.9.

After the four transactions, the portfolio had the cash of $3405.69+$55234.53+$62273.98-$60038-$60032.9= $843.3

Dividend Event

Dividend Event: Based on its holdings of United Internet AG (ETR:UTDI) on May 24, 2013, the portfolio should receive a dividend of 0.3 EUR per share. So the total dividend for the holdings should be 0.3 EUR * 2100= 630 EUR. It should be equal to $811.44, based on the exchange rate of 1 EUR equals to US$1.288.

After the event, the portfolio had the cash of $2594.25+$811.44 = $3405.69.

Transactions

On April 15, 2013, all holdings of eBay Inc (NASDAQ: EBAY) were sold and investments of United Internet AG were bought. The closing price of the investment at the last trading day was used as the transaction price.

Transaction 1: The portfolio sold 950 shares of eBay Inc (NASDAQ: EBAY) at the price of $57.31. With a transaction fee of $7, the net value of the transaction was $57.31*950-$7= $54437.5.

Transaction 2: The portfolio bought 2100 shares of United Internet AG (ETR:UTDI) at the price of 20.00 EUR. With a transaction fee of 7 EUR, the total cost of the transaction was 20.00 EUR *2100+7 EUR= 42007 EUR. It should be equal to $54996.16, based on the exchange rate of 1 EUR equals to US$1.309214.

After the two transactions, the portfolio had the cash of $3122.91+$54437.5-$54996.16= $2594.25.

Dividend Events

Dividend Events 1: Based on its holdings of Research Systems Inc. (NYSE: FDS) on November 30, 2012, the portfolio should receive a dividend of $0.31 per share. So the total dividend for the holdings should be $0.31*547= $169.57.

Dividend Events 2: Based on its holdings of TAL Education Group (NYSE: XRS) on December 7, 2012, the portfolio should receive a dividend of $0.49 per share. Please note each ADS share represents two common shares. So the total dividend for the holdings should be $0.49*5586= $2737.14.

Dividend Events 3: Based on its holdings of Research Systems Inc. (NYSE: FDS) on February 28, 2013, the portfolio should receive a dividend of $0.31 per share. So the total dividend for the holdings should be $0.31*547= $169.57.

After the three events, the portfolio had the cash of $46.63+$169.57+$2737.14+$169.57=$3122.91.

Transactions

On December 8, 2012, all holdings of TAL Education Group were sold and investments of eBay Inc were bought. The closing price of the investment at the last trading day was used as the transaction price. Transaction 1: The portfolio sold 5586 shares of TAL Education Group (NYSE: XRS) at the price of $8.81. With a transaction fee of $7, the net value of the transaction was $8.81*5586-$7= $49,205.66. Transaction 2: The portfolio bought 950 shares of eBay Inc (NASDAQ: EBAY) at the price of $51.74. With a transaction fee of $7, the total cost of the transaction was $51.74*950+$7= $ 49160.00.

After the two transactions, the portfolio had the cash of $0.97+$49,205.66-$49,160.00= $46.63.

On November 25, 2012, two investments were picked. The closing price of the investment at the last trading day was used as the purchase price. Transaction 1: The portfolio bought 547 shares of FactSet Research Systems Inc. (NYSE: FDS) at the price of $91.39. With a transaction fee of $7, the total cost of the transaction was $91.89*547+$7= $49,997.33. Transaction 2: The portfolio bought 5586 shares of TAL Education Group (NYSE: XRS) at the price of $8.95. With a transaction fee of $7, the total cost of the transaction was $8.95*5586+$7= $ 50,001.70.

After the two transactions, the portfolio had the cash of $100,000-$49,997.33-$50,001.70= $0.97.
